The decision to choose the optimal heat source for a newly built house requires a detailed analysis of the available options. In the context of rising energy prices, finding ways to increase the energy efficiency of a building is no longer just a matter of ecology. Due to the significant increase in costs, reducing heating costs has also become a priority for owners of single-family homes. Given that the market currently offers more diverse and efficient types of central heating installations than ever before, it is important to gain knowledge about their characteristics before consulting a specialist.
The central heating system generates heat in one central location and then distributes it throughout the building. Each room has special receivers that allow for the reception and distribution of energy – such as underfloor heating or radiator heating, which ensures even temperature distribution. The construction of the installation is based on a simple mechanism of operation, where the heart of the entire system is gas boiler, heat pump or other heat source. It is inside it that heat is generated through the combustion process of a selected type of fuel. Water is most often used as a medium transporting heat to various parts of the building. There are many types of heating boilers, including gas, electric, and solid or liquid fuel models, which are placed in a separate part of the house – the boiler room.
Efficient heat transfer within a building is possible thanks to a well-designed and executed pipe installation. Thanks to it, heated water moves to the surface heating (underfloor, wall, ceiling) or radiators installed in rooms, which act as receivers. In multi-storey buildings, to ensure that heat reaches the upper floors, it is necessary to use so-called installation risers. The final elements of this system are surface heating (underfloor or wall, ceiling) or radiators, installed in individual rooms. They are most often made of steel or aluminum.
Central heating allows you to maintain an optimal temperature in all rooms. In this way, it ensures comfortable thermal conditions throughout the house. In addition, it is a more economical solution compared to independent heating of individual rooms. Additionally, alternative heat sources from renewable energy, such as photovoltaics, can be included in the central heating system, which increases the energy efficiency of the installation and environmental friendliness. It is also possible to integrate different types of heating, e.g. radiator, floor, wall, ceiling or fan coils within several circuits of one system. It is important in the installation to select the appropriate diameters to reduce hydraulic resistance and to thoroughly insulate all pipes.
Selecting the right type of fuel to power a central heating boiler is an important element of planning a central heating installation, as it has a direct impact on the investment and ongoing operating costs, comfort of use and energy efficiency of the system. Electric heating is distinguished by its exceptional ease of use, requiring no complicated installations or space for fuel storage. The main limitation, however, is the relatively high cost of use. In turn, a gas installation is a popular choice, characterized by a favorable price to ease of use ratio. Investing in this type of furnace is also relatively inexpensive, and the system does not require a dedicated room for a boiler room.
An alternative solution that we are moving away from (Qborg does not install solid fuel boilers) is the use of a solid fuel boiler, which provides the ability to burn coal, wood, eco-pea coal or pellets. Using coal can be troublesome and not very ecological. Eco-pea coal, being a more ecological option due to the lack of fines and flotation fractions, generates fewer harmful gas emissions. These types of boilers are more expensive to buy than traditional coal variants, but they are economical and convenient to use.
